Book to help educate others about the Sesotho culture.

Ditema Basotho Decorative Art Book

The book, titled Ditema Basotho Decorative Art Book was launched on 4 October 2018 at the Global Village Museum and aims to educate the youth and other South Africans on the Basotho culture. “Today is a very special day for me. It is about preserving. The youth of today do not know about Ditema,” Moshao said. Detima is a form of Sesotho mural art composed of decorative and symbolic geometric patterns, commonly associated with Sesotho traditions practiced in Lesotho and neighboring areas of South Africa today.

Moshao’s museum has become a tourist attraction while members of the community have shown their support by decorating their houses with the beautiful Ditema patterns. The street where the museum is situated is one filled with bright colours as different houses are painted with different patterns and colours that have a specific meaning.

The museum is filled with not only cultural history but also sport and other South African historical objects. The book is for sale at the Global Village Museum in Grasland.

After successfully opening his own museum, which captures the rich culture and history of South Africa, in Grasland in 2008, the proud owner of Global Village Museum, Johannes Moshao, has now written and published his own book to help educate others about the Sesotho culture.
